Loveable: Embracing What Is Truest About You, So You Can Truly Embrace Your Life by Kelly Flanagan

About the author:

Kelly Flanagan is a clinical psychologist who currently practices in Naperville, IL. In addition to Loveable, he has a short book called The Marriage Manifesto: Turning Your World Upside Down that you can buy here or download for free if you sign up for his newsletter. When he’s not seeing clients, Dr. Flanagan runs a blog called Untangled and The Loveable Podcast. You can learn more about him here.

Summary:

Loveable started with a letter that Dr. Flanagan wrote to his daughter about her worth.  With every chapter, he teaches his readers about their value and encourages them to embrace their worthiness.

What we love:

Loveable is a beautifully written book.  Dr. Flanagan shares letters to his daughters and antidotes from his own life as he walks the reader through the journey to self-worth.

What we didn’t:

Dr. Flanagan often writes from his place as a father which would be comforting to some readers but others may read this book as paternalistic.

Target reader:

Clients who are Christian or spiritual will resonate with the message most because Dr. Flanagan argues that value is given to us by a higher power.

Clinical use:

I have personally recommended Loveable to several women who struggle with self-worth and it is one of my favorite books to read this year.  Loveable is a great book for those who struggle with self-worth and self-compassion.
